A couple of days ago the builders began renovating the ancient public toilets near the church.

This can only be a good thing.

The toilets required more bravery than I could ever muster and represented the sort of French experience that is best avoided.

However the first thing they did was damage some cables with the result that I had no internet for a couple of days.

This was not so good!

I didn't realise what had happened at first and so tried to contact my internet provider.
As the phone wasn't working I tried to contact them by mobile, having first had to rummage around in the depths of my bag for the brick sized device that is only used twice a year and that reduces young relatives to tears of laughter.
It transpired that the number could only be used on the landline!
When I was finally able to speak to them they insisted on taking my mobile phone number?
All became much clearer when soon after the call ended I received a text message telling me that a dossier about my lack of internet access had been created especially for me that could only be accessed online!
As normal service has only just resumed I apologise to anyone who is wondering why I havent been in touch.
It was going to be a short blog post but as I was writing one of the feral cats 'Little Fred' had climbed under the shutters of the library window (okay I admit I, leave them just a teensy bit open) and sat watching the computer screen with fascination.
He was very badly injured during the Summer, it looked as if he may have been attacked by one of the large hawks that live nearby as he had a huge scar on his back. Some of the other feral cats appeared to be caring for him; bringing him to our door at dusk and standing guard as he ate first. They did a great job and he is now fully healed and doing well. Not so little any more.
The main carer was 'Papy' the patriarch of the whole tribe. He used to spit and howl if we came close but he is mellowing slightly with age. Here he is waiting for supper a couple of nights ago. We think he is probably Phoebe's father?
They always make me smile.
