Air like wine and sunshine

The sun came back just in time for the cattle fair and general festivities in Job
It took place in the park that used to belong to the chateau, now it is owned by the commune and is a real asset to the village.
The views are always lovely and there are some great walks but yesterday there was a buzz in the air as thousands of people arrived................
There was something for everyone
and the cattle were just beautiful. As a farmers daughter it made me feel quite nostalgic.
The breeds were local, there were honey coloured Aubracs from the Cantal
and Ferrandaise cattle that are a local breed and quite rare
and the lovely red Salers cattle, also from the Cantal there are several local herds and the meat is truly excellent. I think this one won the prize for extreme horns.
Although I could be wrong...........................
There is a herd that grazes in the lower park below the garden and the sound of their bells forms part of the symphony of the mountain along with the stream, the crickets and the peregrine falcons.
These lovely Montbéliards with coats as shiny as conkers are sisters.

There were huge bulls tethered side by side calmly chewing their hay. They  are truly immense but so gentle.......................I could have easily fallen for several of them.

Huge marquées had been set up for lunch which was of course barbecued ox!
The deliciously scented smoke wafted across the park and tempted over a thousand people to stay for lunch.

There were lots more attractions including heavy horses, sheepdog trials. This was all organised by a local committee and they all deserve a huge round of applause. The commune of Job has about 1500 inhabitants and I think it is an amazing feat to organize something like this and pull it off so successfully.
Chapeau a tous!

What a great way to start Autumn.
