This is what the publicity promised and you know what, it delivered!
Having fallen even more in love with Le Puy en Velay I was eager to go back and climb the 268 steps to visit the tiny chapel of St Michel d'Aiguilhe last Sunday.
Not before a delicious lunch in a restaurant called "L'Ame des poetes" (the soul of poets!) right at the foot of the cathedral steps.
The food was delicious, home cooked from fresh ingredients, but I was dismayed to see so many people peering in and then walking past. I decided to see if I could make a difference, and began beaming at them, eating my food with obvious enjoyment and in one case giving a thumbs up to a couple who were dithering. I am delighted to report that it filled up quite quickly after that, maybe I missed my vocation.
I'm not in the slightest bit religious, but I was intrigued by the "emotional magic" and then blown away by the tiny chapel set among the rock at the top of the volcanic spire. It really was awe inspiring.
With of course superb views across the town
And Notre Dame de France beckoning for the next trip.
It was a special day for lots of reasons, not least because I scampered happily up those steep steps, a few months ago 28 steps would have been a challenge.
As well as the operation in July, I have also had my hypothyroid treatment changed and it has changed my life. I wouldn't normally write so much about my medical treatments but in this instance if it helps just one reader of my blog it will have been worth it.
Briefly, hypothyroidism is normally assessed by blood tests and treated with synthetic hormone until the tests are normal. However many many people, me included, don't actually feel any better. We feel cold, tired (beyond tired, beyond functioning a lot of the time), gain weight and generally feel wretched. It affects every cell in your body, so the effects can be quite devastating.
Many Doctors simply satisfy themselves that your tests are normal and look for other causes, when none are found they offer advice about diet and exercise that simply do not work!
So, after some research online, I discovered that I was not alone and that there is a treatment that works! Although it is not always easy to obtain. I was also lucky to have a lovely new Doctor who has worked with me over the last few months to find the optimal treatment. I am now 15 kilos lighter with more energy than I ever thought possible.
This book has also been invaluable

If any of this seems familiar to you I hope this information is helpful.
Honestly I feel a bit like an old banger who appeared to be beyond hope
But who just needed a bit of careful restoration to reveal the hidden goddess!
