I never go to Lyon without popping into the textile museum, even for short while. On my first visit I did the whole thing very quickly, drawn from one luscious textile to the next, then went round again more slowly. It still wasn't enough. Now I often pop in and just look at a couple of things more intently, and I am always drawn to this fish tapestry that is nearly 2000 years old, from what is now Egypt.
You are strictly forbidden to take any photos but now I can proudly show you some close ups!
No, I didn't stuff it in my bag while no one was looking, although I have been sorely tempted. The museum has created this copy in silk to sell in the shop. I don't know how the have done it, but they have managed not only to capture the colours, but the texture as well. I'm going to use it as inspiration for my bathroom redecoration.
Lyon always delivers, I also found some superb embroidery, like this lavish renaissance style handkerchief.
And this one with the crown of a Duke
and then there is this plate with the crown of a count
Plus lots more to list as soon as I can.
