Spring has been glorious this year. Big blue skies, sparkling sunshine and early flowers creating vast carpets beneath the trees.
The old stones hold their warmth and encourage hundreds of lizards to bask in the sunshine.
I love to see them but my friends were not amused when they found their bedroom invaded by an armada of scuttling lizards who had realised that it was much better to be warm inside at night. I might have to lend them my cats, who were unusually energetic and put lizard on the menu for a few days!
It has been great preparing the house for Easter guests, Spring cleaning with the windows thrown wide open and freshly laundered sheets blowing in the breeze.
Sadly Easter has been unexpectedly gloomy, damp and cold, but my lovely guests have enjoyed themselves none-the-less.
I have been using fresh flowers in my salads to keep the bright Spring feeling going.
A few violets transform a simple side salad.
Courgette flowers taste as good as they look. These came from Italy, so I served them in a hearty salad with grilled artichoke hearts, mozzarella, olives and shavings of parmesan. All it needs is crusty bread.
Sunny and fresh whatever the weather.
