No listings, uncharacteristically quiet online, what on earth happened?
Well I've been soaking up the sunshine in a Turkish villa.
A trip organised by my sister to celebrate her birthday.
My one previous trip to Turkey has sad memories. It was for our honeymoon and sadly my lovely mother-in-law, Rose, died shortly after we arrived and we flew straight back to the UK.
This time it was perfect.
Far from the big resorts on a peninsula close to the tiny harbour of Kas.
Full of Mediterranean clichés, sparkling aquamarine water, swifts dipping the pool at sunset, a riot of colourful flowers ............ the friendliest people.
I will never forget Ilya, the waiter on the tiny beach at Kas whose Mum cooked amazing food in a tiny kitchen. Delicious chicken (whose relatives were still running around on the hillside), freshly caught fish gilled with fragrant herbs from the mountain and lots of fresh vegetables. What she did with aubergines was unbelievable!
This was quality sister time too. Hours and hours to chat and still time to relax and read heaps of books by the pool. Sheer luxury.
I would like tell you that I am bronzed but I burn easily, so have to cover up and spend a fortune on sunscreen. My delicate skin seems to delight mosquitoes though, I could offer my services as a holiday companion who will guarantee that you will be spared the itchy bites of mosquitoes who who will always choose me first.
Now back home, restored and ready to start the season. Inspired to create some of the vibrant Turkish food and to plant the terrace with a riot of blooms and herbs ready to receive the first guests of the season.
