Easter in Provence was like a newborn baby, lovely and warm, occasionally wet and quite windy! Always adorable.............
As well as visiting the favourite haunts of Sorgues and Carpentras there was time to visit the beautiful town of Uzés
and discover the Renaissance village of Barjac that has the Ardeche Gorges on one side and Provence on the other. The brocante in Barjac filled the square and the narrow streets that were thickly carpeted with straw because of the torrential storms! Luckily the rain cleared in time for a lunch among the bamboos at the Clos des Capucins an ancient convent built in 1664.
I really fell for Barjac and found myself peering in the windows of local estate agents, I thought I had given that up, but it really does seem to be the best of all Worlds. I love Provence but have never wanted to live there, but Barjac has the mountainous landscapes that I love but is considerable warmer than the Auvergne at the moment. I'm thinking that I might need more warmth when I retire, so it won't be for a while yet!
Sorgues was as wonderful as ever.......................................
with sellers creating wonderful displays............
There was quite a strong wind and there were marquees in the park with paintings and chandeliers worth tens of thousands of euros blowing around as strong gusts of wind tugged at the canvas. Some of the smallers displays quite a were not undercover and they struggled to keep their displays intact.
I never take enough photos so I'll have to go back soon! Once my arms are full of linens it gets tricky. I've been so busy with guests since I returned that I haven't had time to even unpack them yet.
Finally, do you remember Sophie the Christmas kitten?
Well she disappeared during the coldest weather. I searched for her and put food out every evening, trying to think of places where she might be sheltering, but I never saw her so I feared the worst. Then last week the baker told me that he had taken pity on her and that she had spent the Winter in his garage that is heated by his ovens, so she has been warm and well fed all along! Now he is hoping to find her a loving home, she is so beautiful that I don't think it will be difficult.

Great pictures Cynthia what a treat. Noticed all the dyed napkins, don't know why they do this? most will eventually fade and become uneven in colour.

Thanks L, You've just saved me a lot of time & effort! I was about to order some dyes and have a go myself! XXX
DeleteLovely pictures Cynthia, oh i wish i could have gone to Iles sur la Sorgue Fair !...it is always a treat, i spent 3 days at the august one but it was sooo hot!!..By the look of your photos, it does look very cold though..i am still in ysdney in the warm weather so not complaining.
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you manged to trace the whereabout of the gorgeous little kitten and how clever of her to have found a warm place for the winter , lovely story
The weather seems very extreme right now. Everyone is longing for sunshine, but we're still wrapped in Winter woolies with the heating on! It isn't normal.
DeleteWhen are you back in France?
