I travel many kilometres every week looking for linens and other items to list for you. Recently there have been several trips where I have returned empty handed! But I never worry, I know it is better to wait until I find something beautiful in great condition, like these handkerchiefs that I have just started listing.
Made from linen batiste that is so fine and light it is almost luminous with meticulous hand embroidery, all unused and perfect.
And I know there will be more treasures if I am patient.
Many years ago, when I first began selling antiques, I had a large stand in an antique centre in Ironbridge. I placed a very and fine quality mahogany wind out table in the centre and dressed it with fine china, candelabra and glassware. By then end of my first week it had sold, along with many other items from my display.
I was delighted, but then had the problem of the nearly empty stand, so with proceeds from the sales burning a hole in my pocket, I went to an auction where I got carried away bidding on large pieces of furniture to fill the space. It was all 'okay', but not the kind of thing that makes your heart leap and I remained the owner of them for an extremely long time!
Lesson learned. It is quality that sells!
Now I search for fine dowry linens that have been stored carefully for decades, often unused , so that you can have the pleasure of using them, knowing that they will last for at least your lifetime. My clocks are also in excellent condition, I don't list them until they have been running smoothly for at least a couple of weeks, so you can be confident that they will work.
